Mission Statement
The Harlem All Stars Youth Foundation was formed in 2017 by Kevin McBride and Steve Waters, two former Police Athletic League (PAL) members who were inspired by the late former Harlem PAL Director Randy Bubba McGhee. The nonprofit 501(c) Harlem-based program provides mentoring, community service, leadership training and basketball for young men ages 14 to 18 years. The idea of giving young black student athletes an opportunity to enhance their basketball skills while learning to be responsible young adults and serving the Harlem community was something that was sorely needed. Our slogan is B.E.L.L. (Basketball, Education and Life Lessons).
Over the last four years, we have sponsored out-of-state all-expense paid trips to various cities in order to expose our youth to positive experiences outside of Harlem.
We are committed to the development and empowerment of future leaders/athletes, by using basketball as a tool to improve life skills, excel in academia, health and fitness, and becoming successful, responsible adults in society.
We host an annual Cancer Walk in Harlem raising money for the American Cancer Society. In addition, we conduct an annual Turkey Giveaway and Holiday Toy Drive to assist less fortunate children and families. Our main focus remains to inspire and uplift young, black, at-risk teens.

I’ve been playing basketball since the age of six. I started playing for basketball programs like Gauchos and Riverside Church, and later continued my play at St. John’s Preparatory High School. My abilities and honors also allowed me to compete at the collegiate level with a full athletic scholarship. I pursued a pro career which included leagues likes the IBA, ABA, numerous professional leagues/tournaments overseas, and one of my biggest accomplishments to represent my national team(US Virgin Islands) in the FIBA Centrobasket.
Over the past decade I’ve been working in an alternative transfer high school in Brooklyn. Where I served as a coach, life skills coach, and case manager to at risk low credited teens for first eight years and I was able to graduate three classes. The last two years I have been working as a Special Education English and Math teacher.
Although one of my dreams was to not only make the NBA, but to also have a career in the NBA. I truly believe I’m living out my dream right now by navigating and educating the youth through sports and education. The basketball program like Harlem All Stars allows me to do just that and more. I’ve been able to meet and connect with some great role models and mentors in my life. I’m just trying to instill everything I was taught to the next generations.
